Help for Teens not Ready for College

If your teenager isn’t ready for college, that’s okay. However, you need to make a plan so that they will be succesful and will find a way to attend college or find a good job. Teenagers need to be forced to learn hard work and financial responsibility. Financial responsibility is one of the most important lessons for a teenager to learn. It is also one of the hardest lessons. From personal experience, I can relate to teenagers who have a harder time understanding how to conserve money and how to make money last.

Teenagers who are not ready for college need to be made ready. They also need to understand that they may never be ready for college because maybe college isn’t for them. There are several good technical trade programs available in today’s world that would be great for teenagers who need to focus on their careers rather than college. Some teenagers simply are not as interested in learning but would do well in a technical school. That is NOT to say that students who are enrolled in technical schools do not like to learn. I have several friends who are in technical trade programs and they love it. They are learning so much and it is only taking them one to two years and then they can begin careers. This is also a great way to teach teenagers responsibility and a good work ethic if they are not ready for college just yet.

Another way to help teens not ready for college yet is by helping them find a job now. A good job working at a fast food restaurant is a great idea. It can be a very effective method of teaching teenagers about responsiblity and to help prepare them for the real world. Many times the reasons teenagers are not prepared or ready to go to college is because they are very immature. They do not understand the importance of hard work. This can be a frustrating position to be in as a parent. A job can help ease the stress on you to adequately explain this to your teenager.

Lastly, I would just like to wish you the best of luck in helping better prepare your teenager for college or simply for a career in general. It is important that you keep working to help your teenager understand the real world and the importance of being a mature, young adult who works hard in their studies.
