High school seniors looking for a creative way to earn money for college could win $10,000 by submitting an application and essay for the Oh, The Places You Will Go College Scholarship from Dr. Seuss.

The Oh, the Places You Will Go College Scholarship is a fantastic program created in part by the Random House Corporation and the Dr. Seuss Estate. The scholarship was created to assist a lucky and imaginative high school senior preparing to graduate with paying for their college education. The 1st place award will be in the amount of $10,000 paid to the post secondary education institution of the winner’s choice. The stipulations of the program are that you must be 21 years of age or younger, be preparing to graduate in the coming year and planning to attend college in order to enter.

To apply for the scholarship, you must submit a creative and inspirational letter or essay – typed, double-spaced and no longer than one page, addressed to a person you know who needs inspiration in their life and you must apply the theme from Dr. Seuss’s classic children’s book Oh, the Places You’ll Go! It is critical to write an original essay that clearly illustrates the theme of the book.

According to the Dr. Seuss website, a panel of judges selected by The Random House Corporation will judge the essays and choose a winner based on the writer’s technical merit, originality and creativity. You will be judged on how clearly you illustrate the composition of the theme and how well your article is connected to the message of the book. Only one entry is permitted per student, and it must be mailed in a 9-inch-by-12-inch envelope. Entries that are hand-written or include photos or drawings will not be accepted.

Mail your completed essay and application before the application deadline of January 15, 2011 to Oh, The Places Scholarship Program, c/o Random House Children Book, 1745 Broadway, Mail Drop 10-3, New York, New York 10019.
