Being a college student means that you are ready to go in terms of your academic career. You have decided that higher education is something that you need, and you are going to do it. The best thing that you can do is put yourself in a position where you can make the best impression that you can in order to get the best grades that you can get while in school. School is mostly academics, but politics is a good game to get used to playing as well.
If you want to make a good first impression, you are going to want to show up on time for your first class. I have heard tons of stories of people being late for their first classes simply because they didn’t know where they were going, or just weren’t able to get to class on time. Not a good move, you should aim to show up for your first class a few minutes early just in case you have trouble finding the place.
Making a good first impression means that you talk a little bit during the first class as well. Even if you just introduce yourself, or raise your hand a couple of times, make it known that you are interested in being in the class, and you are going to do what you can to be a productive member of the class. That certainly helps you when the professor is handing out the grades during the semester.
Another thing that you can do to make a good first impression is to have all your supplies already in tow when you get to class. Having your textbooks, and other supplies can get you in with a professor pretty quickly. Be subtle about it of course, but if your professor sees that you have your book on the table, and have a notebook and pen ready to go, it can make the professor notice you.
Whatever you do in school, make sure that you stand out. A student who stands out is often times going to be able to gain new opportunities later on in school. If a professor sees you as a good student, they will not only help you out in class, but often can be used for letters of recommendation, and other times where you need a good word.
Whatever you do, make sure that you make a good first impression. Remember that you only get one chance to do it right, and you don’t want to start off on the wrong foot in school.
