Is Your Work Environment Bad for Your Health?

Stress at Work is Bad For Your Health

According to Discovery Health in its article “Stress in the Workplace,” written by the American Psychological Association, “A feeling of powerlessness is a universal cause of job stress. When you feel powerless, you’re prey to depression’s traveling companions, helplessness and hopelessness.”[1]  Additionally, “job stress hurts your productivity and can take a serious toll on your mind and body — and ultimately your health.”[2]

One of the best ways to overcome a feeling of powerlessness and to alleviate job stress is to obtain a position of power via promotion or by working for yourself (i.e., being your own boss).

Education is Critical for Power

Although experience is important, having the education necessary to do a job well and to be a leader is a critical element of promotion criteria.  The more power you have, the less stress you should feel in the workplace.  This means that your workplace will be less of a health hazard.

The ultimate workplace stress relief is to work for yourself.  When you are your own boss, you answer to only yourself.  There is less stress because there is no fear of losing your job.  However, you must possess the necessary education in order to be successful at the career you choose for yourself.

Work Smarter Not Harder

As mentioned above, experience counts when attempting to obtain a promotion or when contemplating starting your own business.  However, the tactics and methods you learn through an education will allow you to work smarter, not harder.  As such, you will be more profitable and more successful while doing less strenuous and stressful work.
