Tips to help you Pass an AP Exam

Within a few hours, you can get credit for an entire college course by passing an AP exam.  These are of vital importance, usually culminating a lengthy class filled with hard work.  Obviously, your personal skills will dictate some of how you will do, but there are things you can do in order to give yourself the best possible chance of a successful exam.  The following are tips to help you pass an AP exam.

Study study study

This cannot be stressed enough.  The best thing you can do to pass the exam is to study for it.  You should have a general idea of the topics covered on the exam – make sure that you know these very well.  You will want to go over the subjects again and again.  You can use interactive tools such as making flashcards.  Do not cram all of your studying into the night before the test.  Spacing it out will help you from getting overwhelmed and overloaded with information.

Be physically prepared for the test

It is important to be physically well when you take the test.  You do not want to stay up all night studying and take the test on an hour’s worth of sleep.  Try to get a full night’s sleep.  Have a good breakfast.   You want to be awake, alert and not hungry when you take the test.  Also if you tend to get test anxiety, try your best to take steps to combat this before the test.  You might want to do some meditation, listen to relaxing music, or do whatever can help you relax.

Take practice tests

There are a variety of practice tests available.  Sometimes you can even get copies of tests that they have given in prior years.  This can really give you an idea of what the test is like and the types of questions they will ask.  Obviously, it will not the same questions, but usually it is pretty much the same topics.  It will give you an idea of what you might need to study more.

Buy a book on the AP test

They sell study guides for the AP tests.  These are geared towards helping you prepare for the test and are often in easy to understand formats.  A lot of them might have important study information on material that shows up often on the tests.  Just reading those might put you one step ahead.
