Many women suffer every month from PMS headaches. PMS means premenstrual syndrome. PMS for a woman starts about five to 11 days before the start of her monthly menstrual cycle. Watch What You Eat
Honestly, what you put into your body can make a big difference in whether or not you have to suffer long with a PMS headache. There are certain triggers that you may want to watch out for. If you are concerned about getting a PMS headache, then step away from that chocolate bar. As much as women tend to crave chocolate during PMS, it can actually trigger a PMS headache to start. Also keep away from alcohol and nuts because they can be triggers too. Have a low salt diet to keep your sodium levels down. What you eat can either help or trigger a PMS headache.
Did you know that drinking a simple cup of coffee can actually trigger a PMS headache to happen? Too much caffeine is bad for your body. It is especially bad for you when you have premenstrual syndrome. The caffeine actually can cause you to get a PMS headache. So cut down on your caffeine intake when you have PMS.
Women can be more stressed out when they have PMS because their emotions are usually at a higher level than usual. We tend to be more sensitive during PMS, and stress can really do a number on our bodies. Try to do as much as possible to relieve your stress. Try drinking a nice cup of decaf peppermint tea. Take a nice long bubble bath, and let the tension just ease out of you. Treat yourself to a massage or acupuncture. If your body is less tense, your PMS headache should ease up more easily.
If you suffer from PMS headaches every month, you may want to consider taking daily nutritional supplements. They can really help your health. Many people recommend getting plenty of calcium in your diet. If you are not, try taking a calcium supplement. Also Vitamin B6 is good to help your PMS headaches. Another nutritional supplement to take is magnesium. Taking nutritional supplements may help keep you from getting a PMS headache every month.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Not everyone likes to pop a pill when they are in pain, but if you are suffering from a PMS headache, you may want to try nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Discuss it with your doctor if it is a good option for you. If you have tried other ways to get rid of your PMS headache, then you may want to take some aspirin, Aleve, or some other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. You can usually just buy them right over the counter at any grocery store or drug store. Make sure you follow the directions on the medication.
Sometimes the best way to get rid of a PMS headache is to try cold therapy. Cold therapy is easy. Just place a cool wet washcloth or cold pack on your forehead. Leave it on there for 15 minutes. This will help ease the inflammation, and hopefully it will help get rid of your PMS headache fast. So just close your eyes, and let the cold therapy help make your PMS headache go away for good.
