Bulletin boards can be a tricky thing to complete. There are a lot of things that you can do, and a lot of themes that you can pick from. Of course when you are in a primary level school, you need to keep in mind the ages of the children. You can pick something like Valentine’s day, but have to keep it PG of course. You could pick President’s Day, but make sure you emphasize what the reasoning behind that day really is for.
You could always go for a generic winter theme if you would like. February is the coldest month of the year for most states, and if not the coldest, it certainly feels the coldest. It is my least favorite month of the winter simply because it is always so cold for so long. However, there are some good things you can emphasize about the winter, like skiing, or snowmen.
There is groundhog day that you could talk about. If Phil sees his shadow, then there are six more weeks of winter. You could talk about how shadows form, and talk about the weather that has to happen for him to see his shadow. You could talk about the sun, and do something with astronomy based off of that, or some weather theme for science class.
February is Black History Month. You could do a quick rundown of famous black people, and how they contributed to American society, and the other nations of the world. There are plenty of people like Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King just to name two really quick. It would be a good history lesson for young kids to learn. Break the racial barriers early by showing that skin color means nothing when it comes to being a historical figure.
February is the Super Bowl, and is the Daytona 500. You can get the sports enthusiasts involved with some fun facts about the 500, and the Super Bowl. I would love to do that if I was a teacher, and get some sports mixed in with education. It would be a fun way to have kids learn more history, and learn about a sport maybe they like.
There are so many good ideas for a February bulletin board that it is almost scary. Just Google the month and see what happens, or you can get ideas from your class. Either way, you are sure to have some sure-fire ideas for an outstanding February bulletin board.
