Who hasn’t gotten a chill at the thought of going to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry? I know I would love to have an owl come into my home and give me my acceptance letter. Although most of us here or too old to hope to go to Hogwarts I am sure someone would zap us back to eleven years old so we could attend. Just the idea of showing up at platform nine and ¾’s and being able to ride the train to Hogwarts intrigues adults and children alike.
The major draw to Hogwarts School is of course the magic. Who wouldn’t want to see Nearly Headless Nick roaming the halls and run into Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom? The excitement of the ride across the lake and your first sight of the magnificent school is enough to take any ones breath away.
Then to be ushered into the great hall where food magically appears before you when Dumbledore waves a hand is something every child dreams of. Dumbledore himself is a masterful character. With his long robes and flowing white hair he is a very intimidating sight for the new students to behold.
You can almost feel the student’s palms sweating and their nervousness as the sorting hat is brought out and put on display. Will I be sorted into the house my father was in? Oh no, what if I sort Slytherin? The thoughts running through the student’s heads would be nice to hear at that time.
After the excitement of common rooms, passwords and moving stairs, I’m sure Hogwarts settles down to being your normal teenage school experience; even in the books, there is romance. Boy meets girl, they fight and get back together as normal. The Giant’s and flying ghost may take some getting used to but most would love it.
Any child that has read the books or seen the movies has dreamed of going to Hogwarts. So have many adults I’m sure. The idea of being able to fly on a broom and shoot spells at our enemies is appealing to all of us on many levels. Just the idea of going to a wizarding school and possibly getting to meet the boy who lived or maybe even be his friend entertains many child’s fantasies right now.
Therefore, we will all hold our breaths and hope our children will one day get their invitation to the esteemed Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
