High School Student Tips how Community Service Enhances your College Application

How does community service make your college application stand out? Well the biggest reason is that anything that you do outside of school is going to make your application stand out, and so community service is one of those things that makes your application more appealing. However, community service is more than just something that you put on your resume, it is something that means that you really care about your community. Even if you do it just to help yourself, you ultimately end up helping others in the process.

Community service says that you are willing to go the extra mile to make yourself stand out. Sure, you probably didn’t want to get up at 6am to go hand out meals to the elderly, but you were willing to do something that wasn’t expected of you. You probably didn’t want to get up on Saturday morning to go rake leaves, but you were willing to put in that time to make sure that you stood out from the crowd, and were willing to give of yourself to make that happen.

You say that you are willing to sacrifice for what you want. Even if you just go out there to help out your application, you are willing to do what it takes, even if it isn’t something you would normally do. There aren’t a lot of teenagers who really help out because they want to. I have heard kids doing it for school projects, to graduate, to fulfill a legal obligation, but rarely is it because they really want to do it. It isn’t fun to volunteer sometimes, but you say to that college that you are willing to do it.

Community service means that you are willing to do something that has has a greater value to you than just a paycheck. I don’t care if you don’t want to serve, the fact is that you did. You are willing to help others, and regardless of what the intention is, you have touched the life of someone, or have impacted your community. What college wouldn’t want someone who understands that service to the community is something that you do because you are expected to give back sometimes?

When you serve your community, it almost forces you to grow up. You see that not everyone has what you have, and you appreciate the opportunities that you have in life. You start to see that college is something that maybe not everyone gets to do, and you see a little piece of the real world by serving the community. A college is going to see that, and will see you as someone who just might be a little more mature.

Maturity, sacrifice, and the willingness to go the extra mile are things that stand out about willing to serve the community. There aren’t a whole lot of things you can do that are bigger than volunteering, and serving your community. If you are willing to go out and lend a helping hand to others, it says that you are ready for the real world just a little bit more.
