What High School Juniors and Seniors should keep in Mind when Applying to Schools

If you are a junior or senior in high school, what should you be thinking about when you are applying to schools? Applying to a school is a very important step in your educational process, and there is nothing that should be taken lightly about that process. You are going to want to take into account a lot of factors when you apply to a school, and hopefully the decision you make is the best one for you. So here is what you should keep in mind for when you apply to a school.

The first thing to keep in mind is that you want to apply to a school that is going to be the best for you. You aren’t going to want to apply to a school because a friend does, or because your girlfriend does. That is not going to help you out, and chances are you aren’t going to be with this person in the long run anyway. You have to do what is best for you, and make new relationships for yourself once you get to school, and that is how you will grow as a person.

The next thing you are going to want to keep in mind is whether you want to stay local, or go away for school. This choice could be as simple as preference, but you also want to make sure that there is a good school for you wherever you go. Don’t go to a second-rate school simply because it is close to home, or because it is as far away as you can possibly get from your hometown. Make sure your education is going to be up to par wherever you decide to go.

Is it a public, or private school? Also, is it in state, or is it not in state? You will get more or less money depending on the status of the school. If you go to a public school that is in the state you live in, you can get money for being a resident of that state. You can also get more money from the state government as well because they fund the public schools. Always check into what kind of scholarships, and other aid you can get before enrolling in a school.

What is your major going to be? How does that school fit with your career plans? Does this school offer a lot of networking opportunities with businesses in your field? Are you going to be able to get internships, or work with key people while in school? Keep this in mind because what you do in college, and who you know in business will be just as important as what you did in school academically.

When you are in high school it is not to early to think about where you want to go to college. It is also never too early to figure out what you are going to want to do after college as well. Having a good plan for your life after school, and where you are going to college, and how that fits in is important too. This is your life, so choose wisely.
